Varitech / Blue-Stream Awarded Major Cooling Tower System Contract for Power Plant…

Varitech / Blue-Stream was recently contracted to provide the largest portable cooling tower system ever installed in North America.

A key base load power plant had been forced to de-rate generation over the past several summer seasons due to discharge water temperatures reaching maximum permitted levels allowed by the EPA.

Varitech / Blue-Stream, in concert with the customers engineering and commercial teams, worked to develop a solution that best fit the customer’s long term performance goals and financial needs. The collaboration of the two companies resulted in a complete cooling tower system comprised of a combination of over fifty VTECT-ID3000 and VTECT-ID2000 cooling towers, pumping capacity of over 650 million gallons per day, a complete custom-designed water distribution system, and electrical power distribution equipment, including breaker panels and over 27 miles of electrical cable.

Due to the long term nature of the project and the customer’s existing water quality, Varitech / Blue Stream designed and selected specialized fill packs for use in the cooling towers to maximize both performance and extend the useful life of the fill material beyond that of typical tower designs. Additionally, Varitech / Blue-Stream engineers designed a custom piping system utilizing pipe up to 6’ in diameter to accommodate the unusually large volume of cooling water to be processed.

This success represents another instance where the experience and expertise of Varitech / Blue Stream have proved to be a valuable solution to a critical customer process.

Varitech Equipment Company was recently asked to provide a rental solution to replace existing inefficient Cooling Towers at a large Steel Mill in Arkansas. The customer had two large permanent cooling towers that were requiring frequent repairs. Ultimately, the existing systems lack of reliability was causing production limitations prompting the customer to seek a better solution.

Varitech Equipment Company was recently asked to provide an emergency solution to process high volumes of waste water from a large fertilizer plant in Alberta, Canada.  Varitech engineer’s evaluated the process with plant personnel and were able to provide temporary cooling towers to successfully minimize the possibility of environmental contamination, or loss of plant production.

Varitech Equipment Company, Inc. along with the leading supplier of HVAC equipment and services, save the day for the State of Florida…

During a recent Central Energy Facility loss at the Capital City Complex in Tallahassee, FL, Varitech Equipment Company, in conjunction with a leading supplier of HVAC equipment and services, provided emergency cooling for most of Florida’s Legislative and Government Administration buildings.

Due to a ruptured underground chilled water line, the Central Energy facility was left completely inoperable. During the night, air-cooled chillers were installed to keep cold water flowing during the warmest temperature so far this year. Realizing more than the air cooled chillers would be required, Varitech Equipment Company was contracted to supply a 2000 Ton Cooling Tower to support additional water-cooled chillers.  Within hours, the equipment was mobilized and traveling with police escort from Cedartown, Georgia, to the Capital City Complex in Tallahassee, FL.

Within 24 hours, the equipment was operating and temperatures had stabilized from an almost intolerable 90 degrees F. to a comfortable level of 70 degrees F, allowing the various government agencies of the State of Florida to resume normal operations.

Varitech Cooling Tower provides Supplemental Process Cooling to Heavy Industry in Virginia…

Varitech Equipment Company was recently asked to provide a solution to reduce extremely high cooling water temperatures in a paper mill process. Varitech engineer's evaluated the process with plant personnel and were able to provide a Varitech VTECT-ID2000 rental cooling tower, with a circulating pump, to supplement the plant's older, less efficient cooling tower.

Making use of high temperature fill packs and the unique, patented design of the VTECT-ID2000, the Varitech cooling tower system was able to provide cooling from 165 degrees F. to 95 degrees F., raising the performance of the process to unprecedented levels.

Varitech Equipment Company recently received a call from a major petroleum refinery in Canada which had been struck by a tornado. This event destroyed their entire cooling water system and completely halted production in the refinery costing millions of dollars in lost revenue. Due to the loss of the refinery’s cooling tower capacity, Varitech was contracted to provide a complete cooling water solution. Within hours, our engineers had visited the site, validated our temporary tower solution, and secured an order for a complete temporary cooling tower system rated at 36,000 tons.

Within days, the system was online and running at full capacity, allowing the refinery to regain full production many months quicker than would have otherwise been possible, saving tens of millions of dollars for our valued customer.

Severe weather in the St. Louis, Mo area during the summer severely damaged the primary cooling towers at a major area refinery put a stop to all plant operations. Due to extreme demand for fuel during the peak driving season, and oil prices above $60 per barrel, the refinery needed a solution as quickly as possible. With no power available to operate temporary systems, the plant contracted with Varitech Equipment Company to provide a fast, effective solution.

Within days, Varitech Equipment’s team of engineers had delivered and installed over 35,000 tons of temporary Cooling Tower capacity, with generator power to run the equipment. This brought the plant back to full capacity much faster than would have otherwise been possible, saving Millions of dollars in lost revenue.
